PR Trick Works for Joran
Fox News' Greta Van Susteren interviewed Joran van der Sloot last week in Aruba and has aired 2 parts of a 3 part series of the unedited interview.
Along with that, Fox News has run an unscientific poll to find out American's reactions. I admit that Joran certainly comes off well in the interview if you ignore:
1.His previous stories which turned out to be lies
2. The inconsistencies in his stories versus the few known facts; parts of his stories don't even make common sense.
3. His breaking out into a rash during the interview and Paulus van der Sloots profused sweating when Beth and Greta first talked to him.
4. The nuances in Joran's stories that make everyone else at fault
5. Joran's shoes and Natalee's sandels. If Joran really left his shoes behind with Natalee's sandels, how come neither have shown up? Reports are that tides in that area bring everything back in to land.
6. Joran reporting the call he got from his father regarding the Holloway/Twitty family being at the house and Joran saying that Deepak didn't ask Joran any questions. Really?
Then how did Deepak know they needed to make up a story?
7. Where did the Aruban authorities get "something bad happened"
8. How did it happen that a sudden announcement of a break in the case and Joran leading them to Natalee's body
9. Where did the Aruban authorities get "no body no case"? Joran says they didn't consult his father. Earlier interviews he says differently. Why was Paulus arrested if he never "gave advice" to the boys - which is what Paulus previously admitted to.
10. Where did Aruban authorities get that Joran said "Deepak raped and killed Natalee"? Joran now says he never made any such statement, but his prolonged answer ends up sounding like he probably did as he explains that under continuous interrogation anyone would say anything.
11. Why do Aruban authorities keep having possible breaks in the case that never pan out? Sounds like a cover for something.
12. If Joran is telling the truth this time, why are there discrepencies in what he said in this interview with what he has said in previous interviews?
13. If Joran's only "wrong" in this case was leaving Natalee on the beach:
A. why has he had to blacken her character?
B. Why has he continued to lie?
C. What took him so long to tell "his truth"?
D. When in jail, why did Joran continue to resist telling the truth, realising that if he were innocent, there was a good chance his "friends" of three months were not?
Anyway, I'm surprised, but according to
this poll Joran apparently has pulled off a real PR coup, having changed the mind of approximately 20% of the people watching.
After watching Greta's interview with Joran van der Sloot, what describes your opinion?
a. I still think Joran is not guilty (11%) 2,465
b. I still think Joran is guilty (56%) 12,506
c. I thought Joran was guilty before. Now I think he's not guilty (20%) 4,604
d. I thought Joran was not guilty before. Now I think he's guilty (2%) 465
e. Not sure (11%) 2,489

Mama and papa sloot must be very happy. After the ABC interview, an AOL poll showed 70% of the audience didn't believe Joran. He's now increased his believablity to 31% believing him and 11% unsure.
Listening to the legal pundits on
Fox News On the Record gives me reason to believe that Deepak and Satish Kalpoe now have many more eyes turning to them since Joran come off really well to some people in his interview with Greta Van Susteren. K2 - the set up has begun. Better defend yourselves!
